Michael Mosley shares ‘most effective’ daily meal plan

Dr Michael Mosley often shares his weight loss tips with slimmers online as well as on television. He is the creator of The Fast 800 – a diet plan that helps people lose weight quickly.

The nutrition expert added: “One thing that has become clear since then is that 800 appears to be a magic number when it comes to weight loss, based on studies which show people find it easier to follow, but they still get the same weight loss advantages.

“Studies suggest it’s the amount of weight you lose in the first month that predicts the long-term success of losing weight.

“For this reason, The Fast 800 Diet recommends doing two weeks of sticking to 800 calories a day, every day, to kick-start your weight loss.”

As for the food Doctor Mosley recommended eating while following his diet, he stressed the Mediterranean diet is “one of the healthiest diets on the planet”.

This diet consists of eating plenty of vegetables, nuts, lentils, fatty fish, and wholegrains.

Doctor Mosley has followed this diet for years himself and seen major health benefits as a result.

He explained: “Eight years ago, I was diagnosed as a type two diabetic.

“I was not particularly overweight, weighing about 189lbs and I didn’t look particularly fat, but that was because a lot of the fat I was carrying was internal.

“I was a TOFI, Thin on the Outside, Fat Inside. I went for a special MRI scan and I found out that I had lots of fat clogging up my internal organs.

“Rather than start on medication I decided to try a combination of intermittent fasting and a Mediterranean diet and successfully managed to reverse my diabetes.”

Doctor Mosley went on to describe his daily diet.

For breakfast, the nutrition expert usually eats a “mushroom omelette with kimchi-style sauerkraut” and for lunch, he said: “I might have a turmeric chicken salad.

“Turmeric has lots of anti-inflammatory properties. Or a chickpea tagine.”

Dinner is salmon and broccoli or a kimchi rice tofu bowl.

As for snacks, Doctor Mosley said: “I try to avoid snacks generally but if I do occasionally indulge, it might be on something reasonably healthy like a handful of nuts.

“My wife Clare makes these wonderful sugar free chocolate brownies that contain beetroot and dates.

“They are pretty hard to resist but thankfully, they’re guilt-free.”

Doctor Mosley drinks plenty of water throughout the day and avoids sugary drinks.

He added: “I might add a slice of lemon or cucumber to my water to liven it up.”
