Meet The Dentists That Are Bringing Smiles Back To Their Community

More than 50% of Americans have skipped their annual dental checkups since the pandemic started in 2020. The survey also attributed the pandemic to the overall failing dental health of Americans due to weakened at-home oral hygiene habits. Paired with the financial impacts of the pandemic dental health has been put on the back burner especially for those in underserved communities. Interestingly enough having good oral health supports keeping the immune system healthy and that’s why Dr. Pasha Hakimzadeh and Dr. Ben Reyhani have made it their mission to ensure all are served when it comes to dental care. From opening dental offices in communities where dental care is neglected to in-school programs and smile makeovers for those in need, giving back is at the core of their dentistry.

Dr. Pasha and Dr. Ben operate nine different dental offices with seven of them serving underserved communities. The pair are also partners and co-owners of the world-renowned aesthetic dentistry practice, Apa Aesthetic Los Angeles, and a one-stop shop for all things aesthetic and anti-aging dentistry, Smile Makers LA. While they have specialized in luxury dentistry their passion has always been helping those in need.

“Our number one priority is to provide exceptional dental care and customer service. We always try to work with every patient and their individual needs- whether that’s creating a payment plan that suits their lifestyle or spacing out their treatments, etc. Overall health is greatly impacted by oral health so if we can create healthier and happier communities through our offices that is what drives us to continue to grow and to continue to offer our services to neighborhoods in need. We pride ourselves on treating patients like family and anyone who visits us knows that we are never going to up sell them on something not necessary,” they shared. “That has created a ton of trust within the communities that we serve. Also, when people are confident in their smiles, they smile more which creates happiness. Underserved communities need all of the happiness and positivity they can, just like any community!”

Melisa Butac, a dental hygienist that works with Dr. Pasha and Dr. Ben, has focused this last year on educating patients especially children on how to upkeep their oral health at home.”Because of the fear of the unknown, some patients have neglected their oral hygiene and avoided coming to the dentist. Not following through with scheduled appointments and cleanings can and will lead to issues like plaque build-up and bad breath which ultimately leads to decay. We highly recommend people take advantage of dental cleanings in our safe and comfortable environments while we’re taking all of the proper steps to keep them safe,” she suggested. Butac makes emphasis on going over techniques that can decrease the chances of plaque along with home-care goodies- toothbrush, toothpaste, floss, etc. That emphasis on oral education around plaque prevention,  proper brushing and flossing led Dr. Pasha and Dr. Ben to address how they can help children.

“We have had an ongoing relationship with most elementary schools in our local communities to educate about the importance of oral health and to provide dental toothbrushes, toothpaste, and floss in addition to offering all kids a free cavity screening. Most of the kids have unfortunately not had a dental check-up before or their parents don’t have any idea of how to get access to dental treatments so we’re proud we can step in and provide that for them,” shared Dr. Pasha.

As schools transition fully into in-person attendance Dr. Pasha and Dr. Ben will begin offering complimentary smile makeovers and teeth whitening to high school students in need. “We are always looking for different opportunities to help and give back when we can and we’re proud that we can make a difference in the lives of these children. A well-cared-for smile can make or break a young person’s confidence while affecting their overall health, which affects so much in life and we’re looking forward to teaching as many young people as we can about how to properly care for their teeth as they age,” added Dr. Reyhani.

Over the years, Dr. Pasha and Dr. Ben have offered smile makeovers to those in need. Their goal is to transform someone’s life by giving them their smile back. A recent recipient of a smile makeover, Pat Gorsage, said the experience completely changed her life, This experience has been life-changing. I stopped smiling 20 years ago and after the amazing smile makeover transformation given to me by Dr. Pasha and Dr. Ben, I can’t stop grinning from ear to ear.”

Whether Dr. Pasha and Dr. Ben are designing smiles in their sleek Beverly Hills office or teaching children how to care for their oral health, the pair are changing lives one smile at a time.
